Our Editor’s Review:

We liked that we could easily find Funjet “Hot Deals” departing from our nearest airport. Even smaller airports are listed (unlike some larger travel agencies like Travelocity). The “deals” page is always the first page we visit on Funjet website. Most of the Funjet “Hot Deals” require travel within the next 2 months, but we found that the best deals on Funjet are those that are for last-minute travel. For even more last minute deals on Funjet vacations, go to the homepage and scroll down to the bottom-left of your screen. You will find a “Last Minute Travel Deals” search box. This search box does not have all airports listed, but is another great tool to find the cheapest deals Funjet’s website. This is actually the spot where we found the most amazing prices with the “FUN FOR LESS” deals, where Funjet picks the hotel. These special offers, do not disclose the name of the hotel, only that it will be “beachfront”, “4-star”, ect (varies per deal).

That being said, we were frustrated that the prices quoted were not always what we got on the final booking screen.  Although we chose the correct departure date that corresponded with the deal, it still ended up to be more money than we had been quoted per person in the search results screen.  Overall, the final prices were okay, but not as inexpensive as we expected. We found cheaper vacation deals to the Caribbean & Mexico on CheapCaribbean.com and LuxuryLink.com (currently one of our top rated travel sites).  Watch out for the Funjet “complete coverage” insurance plan that is automatically added to vacation packages.  Although we highly recommend the “complete coverage” as it is the best travel protection plan we have seen on the market, if you don’t want it, you must remove it before completing your purchase.  This is easy to do, but we think that it should not be added automatically.

Funjet Fees & Policies*:

  • Funjet vacations “Complete Coverage” prices vary per vacation booking. It is automatically added to most vacations. Allows you to cancel for ANY REASON* up until airport-check-in time. Additional benefits available and this is highly recommended.
  • Funjet Penalty Waiver is available for some packages. Covers some penalties but “published or bulk air” imposed fees are non-refundable. If you do not purchase the “complete coverage or “penalty wavier” protection plans, prepare to pay for cancellations. Details are published in Funjet’s “Bill of Rights” at http://www.funjet.com/cs/billofrights.pdf. Not easy reading! Summary:
    • $50 Funjet cancellation fee, plus any airline, hotel or supplier penalties (which are generally higher).
    • Many airline tickets are completely non-refundable.
    • Cancellations must be made 7 or more days prior to departure for vacation packages, or more than 48 hours prior to hotel only reservations. Otherwise, no refund.
  • To get the name of a booked FUN FOR LESS hotel, you must e-mail Funjet 2-5 days prior to your travel date at funforless@funjet.com. They will send you the name and details of the hotel or resort at that time.

We just got back off of a vacation booked through Funjet. It was anything but FUN!! The hotel was awful!! Would NEVER stay there had we seen it prior to getting there. We paid for a concert that everyone else in the hotel got to go to free. Funjet should refund our money but now they are saying that they can’t do that! That is a bunch of bull. We will NEVER book with them nor will we ever refer them to our friends. They are horible and what we needed from our vacation was to be stress free. Funjet provided more stress and worry than it did FUN! Funjet will never have to worry about us again! Promise.

They (Funjet) bait you with low rates on the web and switch on you. The good deal will not go through. They charged me 1200 more than advertised price. They say they have 24/7 customer service but when I call their toll free number, they say they are open 8am to 8pm. Total lies. I certainly don’t recommend funjet.

Also note- as of October 1st bookings made for travel starting Jan 1st, 2012 (to Mexico and the Caribbean) Funjet will now charge for “airport transfers” as these are no longer included in the package price!!!! Funjet does not say that anywhere on their website but our travel agent kept having the fees show up on our tentative booking and when she called Funjet to ask them about it- the rep told her it was a new policy that they have no control of. Really? Are we supposed to believe that??

Yes, I agree that Funjet does not make it easy to find their deals. I went to their Hot Deals page today and I followed the link that advertises a 3 night vacation package from Denver to Cozumel for $379. I ended up getting all the way to the booking screen with a final price of $481.71 per person which includes the roundtrip flight from Denver and 3 nights in an all inclusive hotel and all taxes, fees (albeit I didn’t research the quality of the hotel). That is more than what was initially advertised, because taxes fees were not added until I got to the booking screen, also only 3 departure dates were available at this price. Oh, and this is a biggie that I forgot to mention (lol) that the trip somehow ended up in Cancun instead of Cozumel (2 hours away) as indicated in the ad. Nonetheless, I think that is a good price for a 3 night all inclusive vacation.
My tips when booking on Funjet:
1- the default search result screen sorts the vacations by “recommended” so always Sort the results to show the lowest price on top
2- Funjet automatically adds in their Trip Protection at an additional cost. Although I recommend you keep it, you can remove it from the booking screen if you are trying to get the best price.

Just saw another one of the “Bait and Switch” specials from FunJet.

Funjet advertised a price of $399 round trip to Cozumel INCLUDING 3 nights at an all-inclusive 4 star hotel and… GUESS WHAT?, It’s no longer available!!!

    Next price, $1,200 PER PERSON!!!

The agent tried to find the price of $399 from ANY departure city and there were none available for ANY date!

Don’t believe Funjet when they throw out these low-priced deals. In addition, Funjet does not disclose all the taxes and fees until you are ready to book the vacation.
