The Good: The Vayama site is very easy to navagate. Uncluttered and simple. It is common to find some of the cheapest international flights on Vayama. Some other aspects that we must mention in our review: If you are traveling internationally, check out Vayama’s etiquitte guide for the country you are visiting. “According to a survey sponsored by vayama, over half of travelers (54%) said they typically stick to U.S. customs when traveling abroad, and nearly half (47%) said they did something when traveling outside the U.S. that they later learned was inappropriate behavior in that country“! We say: Don’t be a jerk, do a little research before you go….”When in Rome…”. On Vayama’s site, click on “insights” tab, and choose “Country Etiquette”, which will pull up a list of about 30 different countries to choose from.
We are also big fans of Vayama’s international “City Guides”. Also found on the “insights” tab of their site. Talk about details! Let’s say you are traveling to Dehli, India for the first time. The “City Guide” will tell you how many miles the nearest airport is, and even how much a taxi, bus, or limo will cost you. Read on for information on shopping, activities, restaurants, and attractions.
Click on the “in the air” tab, and select “Deals”, and you can compare 100’s of cheap international airfares departing from your nearest major airport. If you are flexible and up for some adventure, just select the airport closest to your home and leave the destination open. Who knows? Perhaps you will find a great deal to Bali and jet!
The Bad: The change/cancellation fee is a little steep. Make sure you have travel insurance and that your travel plans are solid.
The Fees*:
- Service/Booking fee up to $20 per ticket (non-refundable). It is not always this much. The exact amount depends on destination.
- Shipping charge of $20 per total booking, only if paper ticketing is required.
- $100 per person to change or cancel a flight. This charge goes to Vayama.
- In addition, keep in mind that airlines also charge a fee to change/cancel a ticket. This charge is from the airline, and Vayama will be required to pass this charge onto you. This can range up to $400 for an international ticket, plus any increases in ticket price for your new ticket. Some tickets cannot be changed or cancelled, so read the fare rules before you buy. Many are confused by this, and think that Vayama is charging excessive fees. Vayama is not an airline.
