  • Our Editor’s Review

Our favorite aspect of CheapCarbbean.com is their “Free Your Mind” program, which is included in every vacation package booking. This little benefit gives you a $50 promo code for life. CheapCaribbean.com is great for finding family-friendly all-inclusive resorts where your kids often stay and eat free. Cheap Caribbean coupon codes are automatically displayed when they apply to your search, so you don’t need to go hunting for them.  However, we do find the Cheap Caribbean website to be really “busy”.  They’ve got alot going on, which can make the website a bit distracting and difficult to find exactly what you are looking for.

    CheapCaribbean.com Policies*

$50 change/cancellation fee per person (over the age of 12), by Cheap Caribbean. Plus, add any applicable airline penalties, hotel cancellation penalties, and/or any increase in price resulting from the change.

I had a totally positive experience with CheapCaribbean and with their customer service representative. My best friend and I were leaving from two different cities, so we could not book online. We called and the rep connected us so all three of us could be on the same conversation. He walked us through our options, provided a little more insight into the hotel options, allowed us to debate the pros and cons of pre-paying for transfers and other optional services. The vacation came off without a hitch and the resort was everything we had hoped. The food was good and we had plenty of options as to what we could eat and when. It was like a cruise experience on land. We are both frequent worldwide travelers, so we can be quite discerning (i.e., bitchy!) when things do not go well. The Cancun experience exceeded our expectations. The ONLY hiccup for me was flying Spirit Air. I am not a bug fan, but it is cheap, and it was a direct flight. So, tradeoff on time vs comfort. We found CheapCaribbean through the recommendation a few of our other world traveler friends. Based on their recommendations, and our own experiences, I would definitely book through CheapCaribbean again.

Do not book with Cheap Caribbean.
They are not only NOT RESPONSIBLE for any issues you may have (which is the only thing you will hear from their customer service) but they actually make it impossible (or at least very $$$$) to fix the problem yourself. Need to change a flight, they will charge you above and beyond what the airline would charge you-significantly) in order to do this. And, you cannot contact airline directly-they have to do it!!! No assistance for bad hotel, missed car pick up. They will tell you they are a “travel wholesaler” and have no responsibility to you the traveler. Too risky to book through Cheap Caribbean. Too much left to chance-any problems whatsoever and any minor savings booking through them is lost-and generally more expensive.

Also as an aside-as a frequent traveler-I have never had an airline make flight changes so egregious. Going from a 1 hour layover to 10 hour layover when comparable flights are still listed as available on the website?!? Is it possible the airlines know they can give Cheap Caribbean fliers the shaft because they cannot change flights? Not worth it.

I have used Cheap Caribbean many times. My wife and I always travel with several other couples and I do all of the booking for several trips a year. I have also booked trips for numerous others, many times using Cheap caribbean. We are presently booked for a trip for 6 people in Dec. with this travel company. For several weeks I have called my agent, Ray, who has refused to return my calls. I finally called the office but the secretary refused to relay my call to a supervisor without every detail of my question. She became very rude when I told her I did not have a major problem but I did not wish to explain my reason for calling to her and then repeat it to a supervisor later. Some customer service as advertised! My reason for calling was to make arrangements for 4 others to join us from other areas of the country. I booked them through another agency. I have booked trips for ourselves, through cheap caribbean, and nearly 50 others over the past few years. No more Cheap Caribbean for me. If I can’t get a call back from an agent when I don’t have a problem, what will happen if I really do have a problem. I don’t care to find out!

      @Jersey Mike -
In reply to your comment below, TravelSiteCritic.com was created to allow users (like you) to rate and review travel websites, leaving personal opinions, complaints or praises. We welcome honest comments, and I read every single one. Apparently you have a bad opinion of CheapCaribbean, and you were heard here. As will those who share their good experiences and opinions.

Finally, although irrelevant, CheapCaribbean.com is listed on Alexa. Here is the link to CheapCaribbean.com on Alexa -

First off, Travel Site Critic Admin, you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. Have you even read the 3 star reviews for CheapCaribbean.com on your own website? Well, I did. And I also checked Alexa to see where CheapCaribbean was ranked. And you know what? There are 6,296 websites ranked by Alexa in the “travel” category. CheapCaribbean.com isn’t even listed! So stop spreading false rumors. If you’re going to be the admin of a site, you better know what you’re talking about.

Secondly, I went to cheapcaribbean.com today to book a flight to St. John after seeing it on dealnews.com. I searched each week during the travel period (even Sunday thru Thursday as the site recommends) to see if I could get a deal under the “advertised special” and here’s what I got each time:

“Based on the above itinerary, the advertised special price is unavailable for the dates you have chosen. However, we can still offer this package for an additional $88.27 per person above the advertised rate for the flights above. We can also suggest trying another search for departure and/or return on a Sunday thru Thursday, avoiding any holiday period, or selecting a nearby departure city as an alternative. If flights are extremely full for the dates you would like to travel and causing a price increase above, please call us immediately at 800-915-2322 so we can help you with your reservation.”

Wow! An extra $88.27/person? Now someone tell me that this is NOT a scam.

I accidentally booked the airport transfers and called to modify the reservations with 24 hours. The told me that the $114 charge (twice the amount it would cost for a taxi) is non-refundable and were fairly rude. I had planned on booking a rental car, but may have to change plans. Very unprofessional.

Recently booked a trip to Viva Wyndham in Freeport Bahama – flights were good, hotel not so good. Food was the same no variety and not very good. Ran out of food alot. Maid service was OK also, some days no clean towels, had to ask for coffee, etc. I don’t think I would go back to that resort again, however I would travel with Cheap Caribbean. Thank you.

It’s such a shame how people are so negative when they dont get what they WANT as opposed to what the policies are. Just like with buying a car or home there is stipulations which companies are required to tell you. Most people expect to get compensation which no other company would give them to begin with. You do travel at your OWN will and there are risks. Most people even stoop to the level of lying just to get freebies. Shame on you for expecting for perfection. Usually it’s how a situtaion is handled is what is the worth. Not how or what you wanted! As an avid traveler I have had no problems with CheapCaribbean.com and have used them SEVERAL TIMES. Overall, when we did encounter issues they were addressed and taken care of in a timely manner.

CheapCaribbean — I recently booked a trip with CC at a “4.5 star” newly opened all inclusive property. After reading numerous very bad reviews about the property AND after they removed this property from their website I called to ask for a refund. My travel date is still a month out, they refused to refund my money, tried to upsell me to an equivalent property for an additional $1000 and were extremely rude. This was my first and LAST time to ever use Cheap Caribbean.

we had the same experience with Cheap Caribbean, it’s definitely a scam. They tell you that airport transfers are included, but then make them unavailable so that when you are late for the airport you pay for your own shuttle out of desperation. then when you ask for a refund they say “the shuttle was a complimentary one furnished by the hotel, talk to them”.

Do not spend your hard-earned vacation dollars with this company. After a 4-day vacation to Jamaica, we were told that our flight home was cancelled. We called customer service at Cheap Caribbean for help to rebook. They told us we could rebook on the next available flight 4 DAYS LATER!!! or pay full fare to use a different airline home. Oh, and by the way, they would not cover the cost of our hotel to stay the additional 4 days. We explained that we had left our daughter with relatives who were not able to care for her an additional 4 days, and that we needed to get back in a more timely manner. They told us we “had no options” other than to pay exorbitant flight/hotel fees, and then literally HUNG UP ON US when we refused to do so. Fortunately, the guest services manager at our hotel overheard us and assisted us with changing our flight at no charge. Obviously, there were options that Cheap Caribbean did not know about or did not care to investigate. They had no interest in helping us, only in extracting money under duress. Very bad experience, have I stressed enough that you should take your vacation dollars elsewhere!

I recently booked with cheap Caribbean.com they are a horrible company. Please run for the hills. They have fees for everything. They misspelled my name and trying to change there mistake was my wake up call. They told me it was impossible to make a name change and I need to cancel and rebook. But they had to fee me 50 bucks. And wait 7 to 10 business days for my refund and then call them back and rebook. The customer service reps are completely unhelpful. They place you on hold for 10 to 20minutes with no answers. Supervisors are never around. Please people do not make the same mistake I did. Use a real travel agent in person because sometimes if it looks to good to be true it is.

I just booked a trip with Ceap Carribean. Had to change the dates of travel. Cheap Carribean is charging us $549.00 to do this. They stated that it was Delta’s charges to reissue airline tickets. After talking to Delta they stated they do not charge any secondary fees. There were no extra fees they knew of. Contacted Cheap Carribean again and they finally admitted to me that it was their fees. After complaining they said I still needed to pay their fees to rebook. I have traveled with Cheap Carribean before with 6 other people I will not travel with them again. Their fees to change anything are outragios.

CheapCaribbean.com according to Alexa.com is the top ranked website in the world dedicated to travel to Caribbean and Mexico only. If you google them, you also find out they have 200 employees and send 500,000 people each year to the island. We have used them 3 times and will use them again and again telling all friends and family to do so as well. I think many of these reviews are from competitive website trying to give a reputable company a bad name and that’s a shame.

I was completely unhappy with the service Cheap Caribbean provided. Their customer service people were extremely rude and offered no assistance when a travel issue arose during our vacation. They kept blaming the issue on us and told me there was no managers that I could speak with and that they did not have a corporate office. Cheap Caribbean offers travel vouchers that you can purchase ahead of time to get from the airport to your destination and back for the return, but what they don’t tell you is that you may wait and wait…and wait for the travel van to arrive and when they finally do, they will have to pick up other customers from different resorts…which could potentially make you miss your flight home. This is exactly what happended to us, so we opted to get a cab, which was $80+tip, even though we had already paid for a useless travel voucher. When we returned from our vacation, I contacted Cheap Carribean and they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to compensate us for this incident. If you want a hassle-free vacation, book with someone other than Cheap Carribean.

When we were booking our group cruise, we were told that as long as we cancelled by a certain date, that our deposit was 100% refundable. We verified this fact 3 times with their agent, when booking our cruise over the phone. When we tried to cancel the cruise, we were told that we would be charged a $100 admin fee. After spending some time with them on the phone, we were told that this fee would be ‘waived’. I will be monitoring my credit card statements to see if this penalty charge appears. I am also hoping that I will get my $250 per person deposit back from them. I will keep you updated!

I always advise people to read reviews of travel sites here and also checkup on the hotel reviews on review sites such as TripAdvisor before they book… However, I don’t think all will be lost on your vacation to Puerto Plata. It doesn’t sound like you have taken your trip yet, and everyone has different experiences. The hotel reviews I read here on TripAdvisor are mixed, and this person said they booked on CheapCaribbean and got VIP access…

      Very dissatisfied with CheapCarribean.com
Booked what appeared to be a super cheap vacation at the “Lifestyle Resort and Spa in Puerto Plata. Then started reading literally hundreds of reviews on Trip Advisor about dissatisfied people. Constant harassment by timeshare salespeople. Poor service if you didn’t have a gold colored wristband (gold is what the timeshare owners get), no reservations “available” for the restaurant options etc etc…

When we called them to inquire about what color wristband we would get, they said “we don’t know because they change it weekly due to security issues”. Right, then it was just a coincidence that reviews for the entire previous year (incl extremely recent reviews) all spoke of the gold band being the top one. (they knew that once we got there, there would be nothing we could do about it, as we read in so many other reviews.

I also noticed that almost all the places they do business with got very low ratings on Trip Advisor and weren’t as cheap as packages on other websites.

Have some fun and read the 300+ “real reviews” on their own website. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY is unbelievably glowing about how fantastic they are in every way. So sad…..

Got 1 phone call from their representative while in punta cana and that was it. It made our vacation a lot more difficult and didnt even try to help us out a little. Wont be using Cheap Caribbean again, ever.

Cheap Caribbean is very deceptive, make sure you read the internet user agreement. They take no responsability over anything that happens to you or what accomondations you are given.

The Cheap Caribbean pricematch policy is bogus, I talked to their reps twice saying that their price is higher but I’d prefer to book with them since they offer a skymed insurance option to add onto the trip, everything else being the same – expedia’s price for flight, hotel and transfer was about 150 bucks cheaper. Catch is: you have to book on Cheap Caribbean before they honor the pricematch. So I booked. Go figure! Cheap Caribbean did not honor my request because the “skymed” add on was different for cheapcaribbean….
Will never book with them again!

Never book the cheap caribbean.com. They left us high and dry on our vacation to wyndham bahamas Aug 4-10 2010. No a/c at hotel and spent my vacation at front desk, moving rooms, and calling cheap caribbean. Agent never returned my call for other hotel options in area. All they gave me when i returned is apology and 100 credit on next trip. Why would i rebook with them? Horrible customer service

We used cheap carribean for the first time in Feb and were less than happy.
We got charged full trip amount instead of deposit in Oct 2009 and we were not going until Feb 27,2010
Their cancel anytime any reason insurance is NOT that at all! Read in between ALL the lines!
