Travel Wonders of the World is a three page blog with a focus on the home page. There is also a link to the author’s “About Me” blog and a links page.
The Good
We scrolled extensively through the blog entries on the homepage and found a fascinating entry about the Wooden Wonderland of Nimis. This bizarre example of climbable art, located in the remote Arild region of Switzerland was built, according to the blogger, by the “eccentric art professor, Lars Vilks“. Unfortunately, where Professor Vilks teaches and when he built the structure is not included in the entry.
The Bad
After further extensive scrolling, we finally found the “Welcome” page almost at the bottom of the long, long page and learned the purpose of the blog, which is to review the “true travel wonders of the world“. That post was written in February, 2008. We think this post should be a sticky post, or easy to find from the home page. The side panels are not used to their best advantage either. To newcomers to his site, like us, it is quite confusing to navigate.
Our disappointment was compounded by the fact that his latest entry, on the Tour de France, was written in an armchair as he watched the event on television at his home. By our definition, that is not a travel post. Adding insult to injury, the blog title, “Enduring the Col du Tourmalet” led us to believe he had ridden a bike in that treacherous region, but, no, he had just driven through the area “a number of years ago.” Nonetheless, this post has some informative content on the destination.
