Offbeat Travel is a large and ambitious website/blog that is very rich in content. While the title suggests it specializes only on unusual travel destinations, Offbeat Travel also covers many more conventional destinations, focusing on events rather than general descriptions.
The Good
Offbeat Travel is an excellent travel blog. Go there. What else can we say without either writing a book length review or leaving something out? Let’s take Exploring Culinary Charleston: Doing the Charleston Chew, for instance. This guest blog by Suzanne Wright left us salivating and seriously longing to pack our bags and head for Charleston, South Carolina. While there may not be anything “offbeat” about traveling to Charleston, the article included enough off the beaten track eateries and unusual dishes that it fit within the theme of the blog perfectly. This was the case wherever we looked. Offbeat Travel finds something enticing to say about every destination they cover. Some of the locations, like Cienfuegos, Cuba are both offbeat and a little off the beaten track. Refreshingly, the blog about Cienfuegos completely left politics out of the picture and focused on the many attractions of this quaint Cuban town. After we’ve eaten our fill in Charleston, we’re heading for Cuba.
The Bad
Okay, this is a serious oversight on Offbeat Travel’s part: they don’t have a Facebook page link and we barely noticed their Twitter profile link. Normally that doesn’t bother us, but a site this good is one you would want to follow on Facebook. They do offer a newsletter, though. Newsletters are something we usually avoid since our inbox is a little out of control, but we’ll make an exception here.
