The Good:HELLO GORGEOUS!”…..nice greeting. Virgin Atlantic has made flying fun again, from their mood lighting to complimentary drinks and private video on-demand at your seat. Where the real fun happens is in the Virgin Atlantic upper class suite. For less that the average price of first class, you will even be pampered on your way to the airport. A complimentary chauffeur driven car service takes you to and from the airport. Upon boarding, you enter your own private on-board suite, equipped with an extra large table and private power source. Your seat converts to a completely flat bed (widest in the industry) covered with a cozy duvet. Enjoy a glass of wine by Berrys Bros. & Rudd (wine suppliers to the royal family), or head over the private upper class bar to mingle with other travelers. With no set “meal times”, you select the time you wish to eat your freshly cooked meals.
The Bad: Although we love the bells & whistles that come with every Virgin Atlantic flight, the prices departing from western U.S. cities are a bit high. If you are departing from the U.S., to get the best international prices, you will likely get the cheapest prices by departing from JFK airport. We recommend purchasing a flight from your hometown to JFK and then depart on your Virgin Atlantic flight from there.   When searching for flights, the Virgin Atlantic website was very slow. We also found the website navigation a bit confusing.
The Fees *:
  • Cancellations: Semi-flexible tickets (that is a ticket which is refundable but where penalties apply) there is a £30 refund administration charge per ticket. Restricted non-refundable tickets where only the taxes and fees are refundable, plus there is a £30 refund administration charge per ticket.
  • $200 change fee (economy seating), $500 change fee (upper class seating).
  • Passenger name changes not allowed. £30 to amend your name (misspellings/nicknames)
  • Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 50lbs (economy seating) Variable fee for “paper tickets”.
