The Never Ending Voyage is a travel blog, pure and simple. It includes a home page about the writer, Simon Fairbairn and his partner Erin McNeaney and includes the latest posts. At the time of this review, the couple was living in Paraguay. For those who wish to know about who they are and how they manage to survive, there is an About page. After that come the travel blogs and photographs. There is no advertising on the site whatsoever, other than subtle hints that Simon is a web designer and Erin has published a book.
The Good:
Simon and Erin seem like a really nice couple – the kind of couple anybody would love to meet on their travels. They are young, brave and intrepid. Some of Simon’s blog entries are both hilarious and informative at the same time. A vegetarian, Simon was worried about how he was going to survive in Buenos Aires, in his words, “the steak capital of the world.” When he got there, he discovered that there was much more than steak to an Argentinian’s diet. We thought his “Top 10 Foods to Eat in Buenos Aires” entry was one of the most enjoyable and informative blogs about South American food we have read in a long time.
The Bad:
It pains us to say this, but as likeable as this couple is, they haven’t been traveling long enough to be traveling experts, including how to survive on the road after selling everything you own and not having a fallback plan. While we do admire their courage, after a mere 5 or 6 months of travel, it has not yet withstood the test of time. As we mention above, they are the kind of people you would like to run into in Laos and sit down and chat with, but not yet the kind of travelers you can count on for their in-depth knowledge about the places they have visited. Nonetheless, we are staying tuned to their voyage.
