Matt Long, the author of Landlopers, covers a lot of ground on his website/blog. This includes not only the many destinations throughout the Americas, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and Europe he visits, but also the international cuisine he has sampled on his travels, the airports he has been to and the many hotels he has stayed in.
The Good:
Matt Long describes himself as “an average person” who just loves to travel. His blog substantiates this claim. It is a refreshing change from the many travel blogs that are written solely from a young backpacker’s perspective. There is something for every traveler in Landlopers. His acerbic post about the Meridien N’Fis Hotel in Marracech in “Bad Hotel! Bad, Bad Hotel” is a case in point. We loved the way he managed to make his point so forcefully without losing his sense of humor. His article, “How Not to Get Arrested in Bangkok” is one that should be read by everyone who travels to that country, not just those who have read Alex Garland’s novel, “The Beach.” We also liked the neat, easy-to-navigate magazine style template he uses.
The Bad:
Before we could begin browsing, we had to get rid of one of those awful pop-up ads that so many commercial sites seem to think are clever. We’re not fans of pop-up ads. We clicked it off so fast we don’t even remember what it said. But, we found that this wasn’t so bad after all, because the pop-up only comes up the first time you visit Landlopers from your browser. We think that Landlopers would be better off without this distraction, because it does have interesting content.
