Our Editor’s Review:
The ability to book fully refundable airfares on the Jet Blue website is amazing. Most airlines do not allow this much flexibility. However, the Jet Blue “refundable fares” can be a little spendy, compared to Jet Blue regular fares. If you want a refundable fare, make sure to select this option in the search box, rather than “lowest available fares“, and compare the price with the non-refundable fare. If the non-refundable fare is more than $100 less, this may be the best option for you, as it is only a $100 fee to cancel/change a non-refundable fare anyhow* (subject to change at any time).
We are accustomed to flights being automatically priced “round trip”. Remember that Jet Blue flights are priced “one way” and sometimes the return flight is not the same price. We would rather the flights come up “round trip” as the default, since the vast majority of travelers purchase round trip tickets.
The TrueBlue customer loyalty program is super easy to understand and not as complex as other reward programs. It’s simply 100 points equals one free round-trip flight. Easy, right? You will typically get 8-12 points per round trip flight (and you may earn double points by booking your flight online at JetBlue.com). This means you may be able to earn yourself a free flight by just booking 5 round-trip Jet Blue flights online. You can also receive free points by applying to their credit card, similiar to other reward programs.

I have always been pleased with Jet Blue – I have flown them exclusively for the past 4 years, but my latest experience with their customer ‘support’ has left such a bad taste in my mouth, I doubt I will ever fly them again. My original flight had been cancelled and they had booked me on a different flight (no biggie). But the new flight did not get me into New York in time for my appointment. I called and talked to a customer rep who was powerless to do ANYTHING without putting me on hold and getting approval. After 45 minutes of this, I just wanted them to refund my money and I would find another flight myself. They refused to refund my money. The rep’s supervisor was as cold and rude as I have ever talked to in my 30 years of flying. What happened to Jet Blue’s commitment to the customer?
