foXnoMad is both a travel journal and a travel advice website/blog. Written by a self-confessed geek, the site is heavy on technical information, travel safety tips and gadgets.
The Good:
Anil Polat, the author of foXnoMad, is a computer geek. We learned more about how to travel with a laptop in 5 minutes on his site than we had learned in all the previous years we have been traveling with laptops. We learned how to find a wireless connection where there is apparently none, why it’s such a good idea to invest in a long range USB antenna and many other interesting wi-fi enhancing tips, some of which are undoubtedly illegal. We also learned that our 4 year old laptop is nearing its planned-obsolescence expiry date.
Aside from the tech advice, we also enjoyed Anil’s security advice. We are often amazed by how many travelers stumble into the night, never to be seen again. His advice about how to visit Quito, Ecuador and survive should be read by all travelers who confuse stupidity with courage.
The Bad:
foXnoMad is a formidable read. After browsing a few of his categories, we found ourselves stumbling across the same entries we had seen before under another category heading.
