Do your homework folks. Airlines, hotels and Car companies dictate cancellation fees, not the online travel companies like Orbitz. Agencies make money by providing a service of combining rates and discounting their profit to pass savings on to the shopper. Airlines have the authority to change rules and waive fees but travel agencies can not do that.... Do not blame the travel agency blame the actual travel provider for having two sets of rules.

HOTWIRE NOT WORTH ONE STAR! Hotwire advertises in the Entertainment book with a coupon that must accompany a form. My form was filled out and submitted with the original coupon immediately following my stay. The coupon was the only reason for me using Hotwire. I followed up and Hotwire stated that it would take 6-8 weeks to process. After following up again, Hotwire informed me that they were backlogged because of the holidays. After following up again, Hotwire informed me that they didn't have my paperwork and to resubmit. After resubmitting and following up again, Hotwire informed me that they need the original coupon but to send a letter explaining that the original coupon was lost by Hotwire. After following up again, Hotwire informed me that I submitted my paperwork too late. I rebutted with "follow the email string of dates". Still no resolution after 6 months. I recommend using any other travel discounter. I will NEVER use Hotwire and will always direct people here to read the truthful reviews of bad service!

Our experience with Bookit.com was extremely frustrating. We believe we were not dealt with honesty or integrity. There were charges we were not informed about and although in the end they reimbursed us a small amount, it took approximately six hours on the phone with multiple customer service representatives to resolve the issue. Each time we thought it was resolved and were promised a refund with the next payment, it never came. This happened two months in a row. Long story short, we will NEVER EVER use Bookit.com again and we will make sure we inform we care about to stay far away.

I have used smartfares in the past with no memorable glitches. I am however having a terrible experience with them currently. I booked a multi-city flight over a month ago and as the trip was nearing I double checked my itinerary as I had a connection in NYC. Upon closer inspection I noticed that they had me connecting in NYC, flying into LGA and OUT of JFK in 2 hours! Not to mention in traffic. The first person I spoke to kept offering me 'advice' telling me not to book tickets like this - WHEN THEY"RE THE ONES WHO ARRANGED THE CONNECTIONS/THE WHOLE ITINERARY!!! He also told me to call one of the airlines, which made no sense to me as Smartfares were the ones who generated the itin, when I asked what exactly I should be asking the airline, the 'agent' did not respond, I asked if he was still there, again silence, then he scoffed and repeated that I just call the airline. When I asked to speak to a supervisor - easily 2 hours before they close - he told me their lines would be closing, when I pointed out that that was not congruent with their hours, he then said that there were no supervisors and that I should call back in the morning. Which I have and the first question Neil asked me was 'what is wrong with you'? and, guess what - no supervisors for 2 more hours! No accountability, mockery, bullsh*t info, TERRIBLE customer service. BOOK ELSEWHERE.

I agree with the above poster. I had a terrible experience with bedandbreakfast.com. They were ok to hold my paid in full reservation for a year but never bothered to let me know that I didn't have a reservation since they never let the hotel know of my reservation till a couple of weeks before event which was the Super Bowl. I had to contact them and the hotel did also several times to get them. I asked to speak to a manager and of course he was out of town and has yet to call me back. I did get a refund but no apology, no offer to stay another time or somewhere else no nothing except attitude from the clerk I spoke to. I then wrote to them asking for a response and never heard from them at all. Terrible customer service in my opinion and I would never trust my money or vacation planning to them.

Simply do not use Expedia. I regret using it. I booked a flight through them and due to certain reasons had to cancel it. Call Expedia for a refund. Wait time to speak to a customer service was 48 minutes. After that all they told me was to call the airlines to get my refund. Call airline. Airline told me to call back Expedia. Called back Expedia, was on the phone for another hour just for a simple ticket refund. Customer service at Expedia is something that you don't want to deal with. Phone prompt is confusing and doesn't recognize simple voice commands. Very unsatisfying experience. Use another travel site.

I feel like such an idiot, I should have done my homework and read the reviews before I booked my flight on Orbitz. I was also charged with an separate charge from Orbitz. And as far as the Price Assurance it is a big joke. They will never and I mean never have the same itinerary at a lower price. My daughter moved to Hawaii in August will be there for several years. I plan on going every 3-4 months, needless to say I will stay completely away from Orbitz.

The charge for a refund flight on Expedia is anywhere from $50 - 200 for each ticket, which is what an Expedia sales associate told me. Apparently there's no rhyme or reason to how that fee is calculated or applied. Sales associate told us it would be $150 to change flights for my fiance and myself each, but she could not for the life of her tell us how the fee was calculated or what it will be used for. $300 is more than the cost of a round trip flight for us. Needless to say, won't be booking with Expedia again.

WHY NOT USE PRICELINE?? 1. If you want a non-smoking room and you get a smoking room - NO REFUND OR CHANGE. The motel WILL NOT give you (low bidder) the best first choice of rooms. If that is not enough you could get a HANDICAP ROOM...oops dont like it NO REFUND or CHANGE. 2. I recently had a room that was the size of a ships room ...the only thing you could do was lay in bed and watch tv.
AVOID PRICELINE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. LOOK AROUND AND TALK TO THE MOTEL YOURSELF. The best price is not always the best deal. There is a lot of things they don't tell you until THEY GET YOUR MONEY. THAT'S RIGHT YOU DON'T GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING

I booked a flight ticket from Smartfares and basically went through the same difficulty that others have expressed online. A search through Skyscanner showed the Smartfares offering the cheapest deal. I went ahead with booking. For 24 hours, I did not get any confirmation so I phoned them up and was told that the price has increased. I resisted and fought really hard and called them more than five times arguing, insisting that I did not authorize payment for more than what I was quoted. After long arguments with several different people, Smartfares agreed that I pay only the amount I was initially quoted. So in the end, I got the ticket for a very low price. However, having to deal with the fear of paying much more than the original quote, having to speak with surly people at Smartfares, and all that time, I do NOT recommend you going through the hassle and book with more established agents or directly with airlines.

I had a terrible experience with Expedia! I've worked with them before and they were good. It's been a while since I traveled, but based on my previous experiences, I trusted Expedia. They have changed! This is what happened: I am planning a vacation in the UK and I wanted to stay in London for 2 nights. I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights at Tune Hotel - Paddington. Later that day I found out Expedia over charged me by $229, plus, Expedia charged a $25 fee for each room each night. The Tune Hotel website charged less. So, I thought I would take advantage of the "Best Price Guarantee". I called them up and my booking matched all the criteria accept the Tune website did not covert British Pounds to US Dollars. They would not cancel my booking either. So, I'm out $229! Travelers beware! Expedia wants to rip you off! Never book a hotel with them without researching your choice thoroughly before hand! Then, my advice is to make sure you can cancel the booking for a full refund just in case!

Smartfares.com is a complete rip off. They lure unsuspecting consumer with teaser rates that they can't come close to filling. They will send you a nice confirmation letter summarizing everything but you will eventually find that they don't actually book your tickets and will just cancel your reservation. Stay away from Smartfares and their fraudulent business practices!

Never again.. I reserved a hotel through Hotwire and NEVER Again. Hotel charged a fee for parking of $25.00 per day. That is 40% of the booking price of the hotel. Was told by the hotel clerk that this is always a problem with Hotwire bookings. When I received the survey from Hotwire they would not post my comment !! Do not use Hotwire, you will be tricked some how, someway.
Not a fan of Hotwire, Dan

Don't waste your time. Expedia's website showed flights we were interested in but would not let us book at the listed prices. Customer service was unable to help and said the prices had changed but a new search would still list the original low prices. We wasted an entire morning with them. Don't bother with Expedia.

Do not use Expedia. I booked a car rental through them. When my flight was delayed, I was unable to change the pickup time on the Expedia website, and Expedia did not pick up my call or return my call after I left a message. The end story was that the rental company did not hold the car after 2 hours, and I had to rent from another outfit at the airport - late at night on a holiday - at a cost of $520 more than the Expedia reservation. The rental company - Advantage - also gets a black eye for telling me they would hold the car but didn't. Expedia's only answer is to give me a $50 credit on my next reservation through them -- which I will not even try to use. (I see from other messages they don't honor these anyway.)
On top of all that, every time I've asked why the car wasn't held, I get a different story. The last explanation from Expedia was that the car I was supposed to get wasn't returned on schedule. But this is not what three different people at Advantage told me. And even if this was true, why should I be out $520?

Hotelplanner.com was the worst experience ever with discount hotel booking website.

I never saw a total charge until after I committed to the reservation. I never saw that their cancel/change policy imposed a 100% penalty until after I had made the purchase and saw that I had inadvertently booked two nights instead of one. I called hotelplanner within a half hour and spent about 20 minutes or so on hold waiting to talk to someone. When I finally got a live person on the other end they spent most of the call complaining about my cell phone reception and quoting their 100% penalty policy for changes.

After complaining loud enough and often enough I was finally promised that the one night would be refunded as long as the hotel agreed to the change. I was then placed on hold while he called the hotel (the front desk confirmed later that they had called and that the change had been made). He told me that the difference would be refunded within 24 to 48 hours. This was on a Tuesday.

Thanksgiving was that Thursday, so we allowed a little extra time and called hotelplanner again Friday. This representative was more accomodating, but I spent a LONG time on hold waiting for him to do "whatever". An initial, "please hold for 2 to 3 minutes while I work on this" became a second "2 to 3 minute hold" which was more like 9 or 10 minutes. Finally this rep came back on the line, apologized for the long hold and told me that my money should be refunded to me within 24 to 48 hours.

I complained that I had already been told the same thing on Tuesday. In the end he assured me that I would receive my money.

It is now the following Wednesday morning (four and a half days later, with two weekend days and two business days between), and no refund. I will be making a third call to hotelplanner.

I will NEVER, EVER use hotelplanner.com EVER again. Not even with a promise of four free nights. I do NOT trust this service AT ALL.

I have used Hotwire for almost 2 years. And I stop to use it recently because of one bad experience. The hotel star rate from hotwire always higher than the actual rate. That's how they attract the first time user. Also there is no choice of non-smoking room, so you may get smoking room if the hotel is overbooked. And this happens to me twice.
