  • The Good: The travel discounts are phenomenal! You can literally pay for your club membership fee with just a one night hotel reservation. Why are their rates cheaper than when you book directly with the hotel? Discounts4Members claims that, “many hotels won’t allow websites that are open to the general public to offer lower rates than what is offered at the hotel’s own website. But since we are a private club and our website is password-protected, we can offer lower rates on 1000s of hotels“. We didn’t take Discounts4Members claims at face value. We tested them and compared their discount hotel pricing (exact hotel and dates) with Expedia and Orbitz. We found discounts of $165* per night at the LA Westin, and $109* at the Hilton NY. These travel discounts are not to found anywhere else. That is after all booking fees and taxes! Well, as you may know, airlines stopped paying commissions to travel agents (or greatly reduced their commissions) a few years ago. That is why many agents and online travel sites charge you a “service or booking fee” for airline tickets (up to $50 per ticket). They are trying to recoup their lost commissions. That being said, we love that Discounts4Members does not charge any booking fees to their travel club members. So after you pay the membership fee, you don’t pay any more agency fees*. We think that is a very, very smart way to do business. You may be suprised, but if you travel a couple times a year, you likely pay that much in booking fees to other travel sites every year. Why haven’t more people gotten hooked on this site? They have a very reputable list of clients. This helps to establish that Discounts4Members is not a scam. Their reputable clients include: General Mills, US Airways, State Farm Insurance, Comerica Bank, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Convergys, Northrup Grumman, Ball Corporation, and Wyndham Resorts.

The Bad: Nothing really. It is difficult to find the membership terms on their site, which may make it confusing for those deciding whether they want to join. Nonetheless, we think Discounts4Members.com is a little known gem.
